Minutes of Meeting  Engine Cab Committee

·         Introduction and History of cab committee

·         Correspondence from Peter Rebagliati re: history of locomotives at B.C.R + P.G.E.

·         Chemical Analysis Report of Pinnacle canned water

·         Correspondence from John Holliday re: UTU engine cab standard

·         Discussion and Review of minutes from meeting April/30/99

·         possible fire extinguisher training for employees

·         Pinnacle water supplied on engines is being reviewed and suitable substitute is being researched.

0.1 Rail Diesel Car  [Bud Car]

·         these cars will be phased out and scraped at the end of Oct./02

·         Peter and Dave to supply update at next meeting

·         all units done

·         one yard engine in Prince George not done


1.        Cab Congestion

·         dash 7s to be phased out

·         proper baggage storage area required on all road locomotives

1.        Seat Standards

·         Engineman GE-8, GE-9, GM SD40, GE C36-7ME -low back Air Chief

·         GE B36-7 low back Baultar (long-hood lead) or low back Air Chief ( short hood lead only)

·         Conductor all high back Air Chief

·         Center GE-8, GE-9, low back Air     GM SD40 IPS pedestal seat

·         GE B36-7, C36-7ME pedestal seat

·         seats inspected for wear every 90 days

·         Dave to check on schedule for cleaning and maintenance & report next meeting

 

2.1 Toilets

·         anyone found willfully damaging toilets will be subject to discipline (lamp batteries found in toilets)

·         employees are reminded not to dump garbage in toilets

·         toilets serviced during mechanical inspection (septic truck used at Chetwynd & Ft. St. John)

·         coal power serviced at bridge yard

·         dash 7s & 3900s have no exhaust fan in toilet compartment. Dave to check status.

·         possible water reservoir to be installed above sinks for running water Dave to check with Lloyd Sopel

3. CRS20 (Cat locomotives and slugs)

·         all seat upgrades done

·         all Durox door seals done

·         all washrooms and toilets done

4. MF20, MFB20, MRS 18 Locomotives

·         these have all been scrapped

5.    GE B39-8 Locomotives

·         stairwell light recommended

6. GEF36 (GE Dash-7s)

·         all upgrades have been done

7. GEF40 (GE Dash-8s)

·         toilet compartments drafty

·         suggestion made that side window stop blocks to be removed or modified so that windows can be cracked open

·         all units have had non-slip material applied to short-hood steps

8. GEF44 (GE Dash-9s)

·         excessive vibration (series 41-44 not used in lead service)

9. GMF60E (ELECTRIC Locomotives)

·         leased until 2004 but not in service

11. GE C36-7ME Locomotives

·         suggestion made that rear deck above steps require additional lighting

·         possible DB grid cover screens to be made flat for better clearance on walkway

12. General Issues & Discussion

·         conductors and enginemen should canvas membership for issues and concerns to report next meeting

·         reminder about fuel conservation program

·         16 locomotives with traction motors cut out

·         dash 7s  not being suitable for work at B.C.R.

·         remote control policy being reviewed

·         reported that new dash 9 speedometers have been found to be 2-3 mph incorrect

·         rail lubricators set too high & robo-lube occasionally spread too much grease

·         discussion about BRAKE VALVES on dash 9s being difficult to apply brakes in one lb. increments and discussed   modification

·         See-through tinted sun visors requested by enginemen when visors are replaced

·         Permanent clips for paperwork on dash 9s requested by conductors

·         Will look at supplying magnetic clips 

·         Overhead map light for engineman discussed

·         Whistle and bell buttons need to be made more secure on some locomotives

·         Discussed conductors request for cdu display on dash 9s to monitor air pressure on tail end (enginemens panel blocks view)

·         Desk arrangement and cab on dash 8s preferred design

·         Next meeting to be held Oct.1 in North Vancouver and possibly next March in Prince George
